When i started the course i knew litterally nothing about post production. I went from knowing nothing to being able to edit things such as video,sound, photographs and graphics. I have learnt this through the duration of two years via the creation of small editing,video tasks and preliminary tasks such as video sweeds, shot for shot preliminary task,juno task, banana phone video task, lip synch practice and music video shot for shot remake preliminary task. We were first introduced to premiare pro when we started editing the opening from james bond 007 casino royal. This introduced us to a wide variety of effects and got us familliar with the program. Although they were not all that amazing they managed to get us slightly more comfortable with editing.Our first year kicked off filming with the task to recreate the opening from juno trying our best to get each shot perfect along side the origional video. We learnt the importance of props and camera work. I feel this is where we truley started to learn how to edit and use the video camera.After filming each shot exactly to what the origional video showed we continued on to use premiare pro, we were still very new to this program at this point and the effects we used for the video were extremely basic however this still helped us become more confident while editing for future projects.
When making our video sweeds we worked in groups of 3-4 however we were able to get as many extras involved as possible to make our video sweeds as good as possible. Our group chose to do the hunger games as a sweed mainly because we felt that this would be easy to create and was also well known. Our teacher presented us with the challenge of getting a good majority views on our video and whichever group managed to get the most views won. Our hunger games sweed wasn't all that great however I did learn to be much more confident in front of the camera which was good for me in our actual production for AS because before media i was extremely camera shy. When creating our shot for shot video task we were asked to get into groups and we were given a movie genre (ours was sci-fi) and a target audience. During this time we were also given a list of shots that had to be included. During our preliminary task i learnt alot about camera angles, shots and how to better use a video camera using a tripod. I also learnt how to better create an ariel shot by putting a tripod on a table and looking down.Our list of shots included things such as, shot reverse shot, 365 degeree rule, close ups, tracking shots etc.
This was all brought together at the end to create our final productions in AS which really helped us to become more confident when moving onto A2 which required much more editing and filming due to the fact it was a music video task. While learning in my first year i also learn the impotance of fole (sound effects) .This is a recorded sound that goes over the origional sound. I learnt that this used in order to amplifly key sounds such as a opening a coke can or in some cases an actor will re record their lines due to the sound being to low etc. We used fole in a few cases in order to emphasise cetrain key noises because they were too faint. During filming I also played around with lighting, due to the fact i worked with photography previous to the course i was able to use lighting umbrellas to make the shots bright and crisp. This however was brought down in the final edits to make the room look dark and had a bluey tint to it to show thelight of the t.v.Althugh my lighting was not used this made the editing much easier to acomplish.My knowlage of lighting also came in handy at A2 due to the set being all white and needed bright lighting.
At As we got peer feed back by having a group viewing, We had all of our peers and friends from other classes come in and watch our video. Once the video was over the wrote their thoughts and feelings about the video onto a peice of paper that we had prepared for them. We then took them in and read their comments. For A2 we had a much more organised and easier approach to our feedback. In order to get as many peoples feed back as possible we emailed lots of people a questionare and a link to our final video. This was much more organised and much more diverse in their response due to how many people responded.
As a whole my post production skills have developed massively over the course of two years and have enabled me to successfully create some good edits and videos which have continued to get better and better with each task given to me. I now know how to successfuly edit whether it be photographs, graphics, sound or videos in order to make them look good and fit well with each task.
