Demonisation of teenagers in the media

Social media , teenage identification

Thomas de zengitita 2005 mediated.
"Almost everything we know about the world comes to us through some kind of media"

"This influences our view of the world and even our self definition"

Lacan- Mirror image, identification and aspiration .

collective identity :youth  demonisation
"kids are out of control they're roaming the streets , they're out late at night - gordon brown 2008
"ferral,cruel and ruthless"
"animals ruining peoples lives"
"To hell with Human rights" "parasites"
How media today represent youth in different ways?
what effect do these representations have. how young people use social media to create a collective identity. How identity is increasingly construction through or in response to the media.

Out of 6500 stories about teen boys over half were about crime and only one in 10 allowed a young persons voice to be heard.
Media exaggerative stories and in result give a bad reputation for all teenagers. Good and bad young people get lumped together just because of the reputation of their age ( the media generalises and does not look at these people and individuals).

Judging teenagers by one look and not taking into consideration their background and environment.(doesn't give these people a chance) Hanging around with the wrong people(peer pressure) Frightened of others and there for try to blend in, in order to stay away from trouble (with us or against us)
